Hangen,Albert E.

Albert E. Hangen, 84, of Reading, passed away at 7:25 AM, Monday, May 25th, 2009 ,of natural causes at Wyomissing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Albert was born in Boston, Mass. on July 14, 1924, the son of the late H.W. (Bud) and Eileen (Needham) Hangen.

He was the husband of Betty J. (Jones) Hangen.

He worked as a machinist at Dana -Parish Division ,Reading for 36 years. He retired in 1987. He originally worked at Hangen’s Music House for 4 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was a member of the Hotstovers and Operation Knight Lights .

He was a 1942 Reading High School Graduate.

Albert is survived by
a daughter, Barbara(Hangen) Sheckler of Miami,FL. and
two sons Christopher D. Hangen of Reading,David P. husband of Vicki Hangen of Reading.

Albert is also survived by
a sister, Jeanne Jackson of Palmetto,FL.
a brother, N. Richard Hangen of Reading and Sarasota,FL.

He is also survived by 7 grandchildren-Brenda,Melissa,Alison,Jake,Samantha,Emily and Max and 2 great grandchildren-Brandon and Bruce.

He was predeceased by a daughter-Yvonne Berger.

Memorial Service at at Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.,1501 N. 11th St., Reading, at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 29th. The family will receive friends Friday 2:30-3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association 501 Washington St. Reading, PA 19601.

  1. We were very sorry to hear of Uncle Bert’s passing on. Both Alan and I have many fond memories of family times together, especially past Christmas and summer gatherings. Please know Aunt Betty that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

  3. My deepest sympathy to my wonderful Sister-In-Law, Betty, her children, grandchildren, and great grand children. It was a great honor to remember Bert at the Veteran’s Service on Memorial Day at our Bradenton Momument.

    If you want a change in scenery, the door is always open here in Florida.

  4. Bert will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved a good cookie! I am personally eternally grateful to him for so graciously sharing his lovely youngest daughter, Barbara, with me all these years.

  5. Bert was one of a kind and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. His friendship and kindness at a very difficult time were, to me, the true measure of the man. He will be missed. My thoughts, prayers and love are with all of you.
