Downs,J. Richard
J. Richard (Dick) Downs, 76, of Reading, passed away Tuesday, August 10th, 2010, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he was a patient since July 26th.
J. Richard was born in Reading, on December 18, 1933, the son of the late James John and Esther M. (Hinnershitz) Downs.
He was the husband of Catherine H. (Hnot) Downs.
He worked as a general supervisor in the shipping department at CarTech for 30 years. He retired in 1994.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was an avid golfer,he loved wood working and he was an avid sports fan.He was a member of Lodge #435 F&AM.
He was a 1951 Reading High School graduate and a graduate of I.M.I.
He was a member of St. Thomas U.C.C., Reading.
Dick is also survived by
two daughters, Tracy wife of Anthony Koumaras of Reading,
Kelly L. wife of Jeffrey M. Piontek of Muhlenberg Twp. and
a son,Scott R. Downs of Cartersville,Ga.
He is also survived by 8 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren
He was predeceased by a sister,Jane L. Himmelberger.
Masonic service on Friday 1:30 PM followed by religious service
at the Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.,1501 N. 11th St., Reading.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Friday 12:30-1:30 PM.
Interment at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions to St. Thomas UCC Memorial Fund, 851 N. 11th St Reading, Pa. 19604
