Rev. James W. Adam, 71, of Reading, passed away at 4:54 AM, Monday, October 17th, while in the company of family members at his residence.

James was born in Reading, on June 25, 1940, the son of the late Aaron E. and Dorothy A. (Gehret) Adam.

He was the husband of Ruth N. (Horning) Adam.

Rev. Adam served as pastor at the following churches. United Reformed Church, Needham Market, Suffolk,England, Barnesville Charge, Trinity UCC, Skippack, Old Zionsville UCC, Maidencreek UCC, Blandon, Epler’s UCC, Bern Township, Zion UCC, Womelsdorf , St. Stephen’s UCC, Reading and twice at St. Paul’s UCC, Robesonia and Grace Alsace UCC, Reading.

He graduated from Reading High School and Albright College. He also was a graduate of Andover Newton Theological School, Mass. and Princeton Theological Seminary, NJ.
Rev. Adam was president of the Alumni Assoc. Executive Board of Reading High School and Board of Bethany Children’s Home.

He was a member of Maidencreek Church, Blandon.

In addition to his wife James is also survived by
a twin sister, Martha Jean Schulz of Avalon, NJ.

He is also survived by Nephew Adam husband of Beverly Schulz, Glen Allen,VA. 2 Nieces Donna wife of Armando Garcia, Centerville, VA., Rachel D. wife of Steven Maygers Sicklerville, NJ. and several great nieces and nephews. He had a great love of dogs and is survived by his dog Aaron and 3 cats Siam, Momma Cat and Big Boy.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Paul’s U.C.C., 301 W. Penn Ave., Robesonia, PA 19551, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22nd.

Interment private at convenience of the family in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Twp.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s UCC at the above address.

Hazel R. Kantner, 98, of Reading, passed away Sunday, October 16th, peacefully at Topton Lutheran Home, Topton.

Hazel was born in Frackville, on November 2, 1912, the daughter of the late Gordon and Abbie (Miller) Kramer.

She was the widow of Oliver E. Kantner. He died June 26, 1983.

Mrs. Kantner was very active with First U.C.C., of Reading, where she was a member and enjoyed doing ceramics, which she did out of her home.

She is survived by a niece Jean H. Rowe, and 3 great nieces Miriam Kramer of California, Marion wife of John Rundle of Reading and Sharon wife of Barry Weber of Florida. Also are great great nieces and nephews Deanine, Jonelle, John, Kristine, Matthew, Elisha, Robert, James and Janet.

Services from the Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1501 North 11th Street, Reading, at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 20th, with The Rev. Mark D. Dewald officiating.

Friends are invited to call Thursday 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.

Interment at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Twp.

C. George Zapf,Jr., 95, formerly of Laureldale, passed away Sunday, October 9th, 2011,of natural causes at Manor Care, Muhlenberg Township.

Mr. Zapf was born in Reading, on May 27, 1916, the son of the late C. George,Sr. and Meta E. (Bolich) Zapf.

He was the widower of Esther R. (Seaman) Zapf. She died 11/10/1999.

He was employed as a street car and bus operator at Barta for 40 years before retiring in 1982 as a dispatcher.

He was a member of Mountain View Fellowship Church of God,1221 Hampden Blvd., Reading,Pa. 19604.He was also past chairman,vice chairman,secretary and treasurer of the church. In addition he was a choir and bell member. He was past treasurer of the General Assembly of Boyertown District for 7 years.
He also sang in the Mixed and Male Quartettes.

George’s life was revolved around his love for family,God and his extended church family. He tried to set an example by living his life in a Christian way before his fellow man.

Mr. Zapf is survived by
a daughter, Nancy L. Hahn of Denver,CO. and
and also by a son,
Richard G. Zapf of Fleetwood.

He is also survived by 5 grandchildren ,5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter,Gloria A. Cole in October,2009.

Services from the Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc.1501 N. 11th St., Reading, at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 14th.

Fern V. Bucher, 83, of York, passed away Wednesday, October 5th, 2011, in the home of her grandson,David M. Hinnershitz. She was formerly of Reading.

Fern was born in Reading on May 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Francis and Mabel (Ehrgood) Guevara.

She was the widow of Clair Hinnershitz. who died during World War II.

She was a member of the former St. Stephens UCC,Reading.

She is also survived by 2 granddaughters,Lucy Whitehead and Fern Jackie Wetzel,5 great grandchildren,George,Robert and BeauDavid Willman,Amber Hinnershitz,Jessie Wetzel, 1 great great granddaughter,Alyssa N. Willman,1 great great grandson,Troy Acampora and her daughter-in-law,Sandra J. Hinnershitz.

She was predeceased by her son,Clair “Robert” Hinnershitz,who died 10/14/1998.

Services are private at the convenience of the family.

Patricia Ann Hartman-Maggs, 76, of Reading, died at 11:46 AM, Friday, September 30th, while in the company of family members at Manor Care - Sinking Spring.

Patricia was born in Lansdale, on May 14, 1935, the daughter of the late Rudolf and Gladys (Dobbie) Freeland.

She was the wife of Max Maggs.

She worked in the custodial department for the Reading School District and previously for Western Electric.

Patricia loved dogs and was a trainer in Berks County using the gentle leader method.

Patricia is survived by
a daughter, Kerry L. Korper of Wyomissing and by a granddaughter Hannah Thomason also of Wyomissing and 2 cousins Hugh Drey and Donna Drey.
